Faculty of Economics and Business

Department of Business Administration, Management and Marketing

Since the 1990s, as fundamental approaches in higher education began to change, the academic sphere saw the adaptation of the theoretical teaching traditionally characteristic of educational programmes to modern teaching orientated toward market relations.

Initially, in 1994, the Chair of Economics and Management was established in the field of economics at Batumi State University, headed by Associate Professor D. Diasamidze. This chair became the foundation for the development and expansion of the department in the field of economics, which later included several chairs.

In 2006, as a result of the reorganisation carried out at the university, all chairs operating in the field of economics were united and the Department of Economic Sciences was established. The department was headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences Professor Rezo Manvelidze. The department had approximately 60 employees, including one full professor, 21 associate professors, and 8 assistant professors.

In October 2009, the Department of Economics was divided into two field-specific departments:

Finance, Accounting and Audit;
Economic Policy and Business Administration.

From 2009 to 2013, the Department of Economic Policy and Business Administration was headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences Professor Rezo Manvelidze; in 2013–2014, by Doctor of Economics Professor Gela Mamuladze; and in 2014–2015, by Candidate of Economic Sciences Associate Professor Murman Tsetskhladze.

In January 2015, the Department of Economic Policy and Business Administration was again divided into two departments: the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Economics.
