Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University held a convivial ceremony to welcome the international students. In the frame of the exchange programme 17 International students will be learning at BSU during the spring semester. Rector of the University, Prof. Merab Khalvashi, Deputy Rector, Prof. Tamar Siradze, Prof. Natia Tsiklashvili, Deputy Rector, Deans of the Faculties and Mr. Giorgi Tavamaishvili, Head of the Strategic Development and International Relations Office met the students to inform them on the conditions of learning at BSU and wish them success. At the end of the event the University Band performed a concert for the guests.

The German (Saarland University), French (the University of Montpellier), Spanish (Alcala University), Romanian (Suceava University), Kyrgyz (Kyrgyz Economic University, Kyrguzstan State Financial academy, Issuk-Kul State University), Kazakh ( Kazgy University) and Azerbaijanian (Nakhchivan State University) students will get education at the education programmes of various faculties of BSU.

The welcome ceremony for the international students was organized by the Department of Strategic Development and International Relations Office of BSU.

Rockwell E. Herron, Special Agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the US Department of Justice, Jenifer Swider, Attaché (Georgia) of the Drug Enforcement Administration of the US Department of Justice, Melor Tsipuria, President of the US-Georgia Friendship Association and Temur Dadiani, Specialist Corporal met the students of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Rockwell E. Herron presented the program “I Choose My Future” to the students and introduced them to the drug demand reduction policy as well as the consequences of drug edition. The speaker focused on drug abuse cases, the related diseases, broken up families and violence.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University became the member of the consortium of the project “Modernization Internationalization Tools, Practices and Staff Competence to Support the Student-centered Learning in Eastern Partnership Universities- INTERTOOL” , financed by the Swedish Institute. In the frame of the project special seminars focused on improvement of the internationalization tools, identification of the common challenges and preparation of the new project proposal will be implemented for the consortium partner universities.

On February 26-27 the meeting in Stokholm was attended by the INTERTOOL project consortium members: Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education, Associate Prof. Lela Turmanidze and the Head of the Quality Assurance Service of the University, Associate Prof. Anzor Beridze who presented the challenges of BSU at the meeting.

The coordinator of the mentioned project is the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden (KTH).

BSU has been already a member of the Francophone University Agency for several months that envisages implementation of the joint projects. In the context of the event Muhamed Ketata, Regional Director of the Eastern and Central Europe of the Francophone University Agency, Tamar Garibashvili, Francophone University Agency Head in Georgia and Melody Shomen, teacher invited with the support of the Francophone University Agency visited BSU. Representatives of the Agency discussed the issues of future cooperation and defined the priorities at the meeting with the Deputies of the University Rector Tamar Siradze and Natia Tsiklashvili, the University professors, teaching staff and the students.

14 students of BSU will leave for the mobility in the leading universities of Europe in the frame of the ERASMUS+exchange programme. The students from various faculties will cover the spring semester of the 2018-2019 academic year in the universities in France, Austria, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Spain, Germany and Poland. Moreover, 6 students will continue their studies in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in the frame of the memorandums concluded between BSU and the Universities.

In order to obtain the scholarship of the European Commission the students had to go through concurs based on 3 stages: exam in foreign language, evaluation and confirmation of the originality of the application and the relevant documents and the interview.

In the frame of the exchange programme Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University will be hosting 12 international students.
