Meeting with USAID Basic Education Program Representatives

Nancy Parks, „USAID Basic Education Program Manager” and Manana Ratiaani0, Director of the Teacher Training Program, paid a working visit to BSU. Nika Chkhartishvili, Head of the BSU Administration, Vladimer Glonti, Head of the Quality Assurance Service, and Ekaterine Shainidze, Head of the Finance and Economics Department, participated in the meeting with the USAID Basic Education Program trainers. The program works in several areas, and one of them is to support the development of an integrated undergraduate-master’s teacher training program in general education and to assist in the preparation for accreditation.

During the meeting, the changes to be implemented in the integrated undergraduate-master’s educational program of general education teacher training, as well as the details of the implementation of the component of cooperation with basic schools and pedagogical practice component were discussed. The trainers of the “USAID Basic Education Program” talked about the coaching sessions with small groups of leading teachers in the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year, as well as the classroom observations already conducted in some public schools in Ajara and Guria. Existing problems and challenges were analyzed and the future plans of the program were discussed.

Within the framework of the working visit, a meeting was also held with the business partners of the "Ideators' Clubs". “USAID Basic Education Program” Representative Giorgi Zhvania met the Basisbank Representative Tamta Nutsubidze, construction company “Horizon Group” Representatives Nana Nakashidze and Ketino Tsintsadze, Batumi Referral Hospital and Ajara Nursing Association Representatives Tamar Mkhatvari and Inga Kiltava and Nino Chikvashvili and Maka Kachkachishvili, representatives of the "Progress", the network of the Georgian-American international schools.

The participants of the meeting, in addition to summarizing the work of the clubs, outlined future plans for cooperation and discussed alternative means of expanding the clubs. The guest listened to the opinions of business leaders on the importance of the projects prepared by Batumi №1, №4, №14, №15, №16 and №28 public schools and the opportunities for their implementation and dissemination. The implementation of the “USAID Basic Education Program,” including the Idea Club, is planned for the next academic year at BSU.
