Approval of Regulations regarding Centre of Translation and Interdisciplinary Research, Shota Rustaveli State University, Faculty of Humanities.

"Higher Education" of the first paragraph of Article 21 of the Law, BSU's Faculty of Humanities of the Charter and Article 8 of the protocol (№10, 24.06.2014) on the basis of the  Academic Council statement.

Regulations

Article 1. Scope

 

This regulation defines the legal entity of public law - the Center of Translation and Interdisciplinary Research (the "Center") at the Shota Rustaveli State University Faculty of Humanities, its structure, goals, and objectives. Regulates the primary activities of the Center, as well as other issues related to the functioning of the center.

 

Article 2. Powers

The Center performs its activities according to the Constitution, international treaties, Georgian Law on  Higher Education, BSU's and Faculty of Humanities Statute, regulations, code of ethics, the present regulations and other legislation, regulations, and acts of the university.

Article 3. Goals, Objectives, and Functions

 

3.1. The main objectives are:

 

A) development of multilingual corpus - the training and support of the applied research;

B) project: Development of Translated Political Corpus (Grant # 690 11210 3016 20, G-PAC and the BSU's agreement) within the framework of building software and databases to fill in the scientific literature translation;

C) building of terminological databases-localization (adaptation);

 

3.2. The task:

A) training, academic / scientific resources development for the university;

B) e-books development for the BSU students;

C) promote the development of specialized dictionaries, with the involvement of students and professors, to use and to complete the data;

 

3.3. Center:

A) building multilingual educational resources necessary for the further processing of the databases and computer programs (Georgian language specific) and a semi-automatic mode of research; 

B) development of new translation training programs and courses;

C) participation in the national and international research grants projects, forums, conferences, and symposia;

D) cooperation with the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Frankfurt, in the area of   Georgian National Corpus Development;

E) translations of international scientific literature and building categories of corpus databases for consumer services;

F) development of specialized terminological dictionaries;

G) Translation of students (undergraduate final academic year, master's and doctoral students) led by Professor involvement (in the form of practice will be able to translate the scientific literature on the subject and be trained in the implementation of the number of issued certificates);

H) cooperation with international HEIs according to the goals, objectives, and functions.

 

Article 4. The main directions

 

The main directions:

 

A) improvement and /or development of translation training courses, new training programs;

 

B) Academic/scientific research databases, translated/parallel corpus and software development;

C) studies in digital humanities;

 

Article 5. Structure and Management of the Center

5.1. Coordinating Council is the governing body, which reports to the Rector, the Academic Council and the Council of the Faculty of Humanities;

5.2. The composition of the Board (Chairman and members) shall be approved by order of the BSU Rector.

5.3. The Council meeting will be convened at least once every 3 months;

5.4. Coordinator provides management of the Center and performance of its functions, Coordinator is also the Chairperson of the Board;

5.5. The Centre managers are also members of the Coordinating Council.

5.6. Center of the Faculty Council hears a report every 6 months. The Academic Council hears the report on the activities performance per annum. 

 

Article 6 for Budget and financing

 

6.1. The Center can have the following sources of funding:

A) the amount of the budget allocated for the operation;

B) public or private grants or donations /revenues;

C) other income permitted by law.

6.2. The Coordinator of the Centre, in agreement with the relevant structures, drafts the estimated expenses and submits to the Head of Administration.
