
In the Kobuleti municipality, in the area of public school of the village of Khala, within the framework of the grant competition "Smart farm in our school" funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and based on the BSU extension center, a training-demonstration greenhouse for growing endemic fruit tree seedlings was opened. The training-demonstration greenhouse was opened by Merab Khalvashi, Rector of BSU, together with the representatives and extensionists of the US Department of Agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture of Ajara and the Ministry of Education of Ajara.
The "Smart Farm in Our School" competition aims to popularize agricultural professions among young people, improve skills and competencies, rejuvenate industries in Ajara, implement agricultural technologies, include a research component in providing agricultural extension, and sustainably develop the university model of agricultural extension.
The competition "Smart farm in our school" was implemented for public schools of AR of Ajara, on the basis of the extension center of BSU, with the financing of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), with the support of the Ministries of Education and Agriculture of Ajara and the organization of "Farmer of the Future". 6 grant projects were financed, 4 of them school teaching-demonstration greenhouses/plots.
The extension center at BSU was opened on April 21, 2023 at the base of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Vocational Program Management and Continuing Education Center, and its purpose is to support agricultural sectors, to strengthen the role and participation of the university in providing agricultural extension to society.
