Victor Drel, Associate Professor of the Department of Commodity Research, Commercial Business and Products Expertise, Director of the Institute of Trade, Customer Services and Tourism, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi, Vice Rector Inga Shamilishvili, the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Rostom Beridze, and professors held the introductory meetings with Mr. Drel and discussed the Memorandum of Agreement, which was signed mutually by the parties. The cooperation envisages implementation of the exchange programs and research and educational projects. Through the MoA the high educational institutions will also collaborate for the development of the joint doctoral program, organization of the joint conferences, seminars, training courses and summer schools.
The Faculty of Tourism, BSU and the Institute of Trade, Customer Services and Tourism have planned to hold a joint summer school within the framework of the memorandum. The one-term exchange programs, to be launched shortly, will give the Ukrainian students an internship opportunity in Batumi.

Terry Burte, who has been recently appointed attaché of the Embassy of France to Georgia and Head of the University and Research Cooperation of the French Institute visited Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
The attaché held meetings with the Rector of BSU, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, professors of the Department of French and the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism.
At the introductory meeting, the Rector of BSU spoke about Georgia-France relations and the university life. He expressed readiness for closer cooperation with the French Institute.
The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and the professors spoke about the details of the exchange programs. The parties discussed the challenges and the strategies for their resolution.
At the Faculty of Tourism, Terry Burte was given a comprehensive overview of the current programs. The attaché talked about the opportunities for closer cooperation.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli state University undergraduate students of the Faculty of Tourism will take part in the joint project "Sustainable Tourism: Entrepreneurship in Rural Areas and Cultural Heritage. Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Norway Cooperation in the Field of Education”; Through this exchange program they will be able to study for one academic semester in Norway and Kyrgyzstan.
The jury selected the best candidates among the 30 contestants based on the English language command, intercultural communication skills, and academic achievements. During one semester Reveka Ferdman and Zurab Shamilishvili will study in Norway for one term, Theona Qartsivadze and Megi Bezhanidze will be writing their BA papers in Norway. Tinatin Gogolishvili and Ana Topuria will study in Kirgizstan during the next academic term. Anna Shainidze and Nino Chachava will take part in the summer school organization, scheduled for 19-25 June, 2017. The same project envisages exchange scholarship in Norway for 3 professors from the Faculty of Tourism, BSU.

The Faculty of Tourism is implementing a joint project "Sustainable Tourism: Entrepreneurship in Rural Areas and Cultural Heritage. Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Norway Cooperation in the Field of Education”. The project was launched in 2016 and it will last till 2019. The students of the Faculty of Tourism will be able participate in the exchange program and study abroad: in Norway or Kirgizstan, develop their BA papers or take part in the organization of the summer school.

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University held a conference devoted to the international day of people with limited capabilities. The topic of the scientific conference was “European Union and people with limited capabilities’. Professors, students, delegates from the high education institutions, government, and non-governmental organizations presented papers on the urgent issues of the people with limited capabilities. Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi emphasized on the necessity of transforming the university into an adapted environment for the inclusive education.
The agenda of the conference included discussion on paragraph 42 of Georgian Constitution, as well as various forms of discrimination against individuals over political or social differences.
The participants were awarded special certificates.
The conference organizer was the NPLE “For the Rights of People with Limited Capabilities”, sponsored by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Information Centre on NATO and EU.

Rector of BSU Merab Khalvashi honoured BSU student Besik Chkhikvadze, European Champion in Shotokan Karate, awarding BSU certificate for the great achievements in the name of the home university. BSU fully covered annual tuition fee to the Faculty of Technolgy where the champion is enrolled.
The European Championship started out in Batumi, where 1400 competitors from total 35 countries contended the title of the champion. In the final battle, Besik Chkhikvadze defeated Kazakh, Turkish and Azeri contenders, winning the Champion of Europe’s title. The next scheduled tournament in which Besik Chkhikvadze participates will take place in the city of Poti, where the National Team membership will be contended.
There is an Olympic Karate team currently training at BSU. Adjaria Karate Federation rendered Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University a gold medal and a diploma for the support and development of Karate, recently included on Olympic programme.
