The ceremony was attended by the Defence Minister Tina Khidasheli, the Foreign Affairs Minister Tamar Beruchashvili, the European and State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration David Bakradze, the US Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland, the Acting Rector of BSU, Associate Professor Merab Khalvashi, Director of the NATO and the EU Information Centre Elene Gotsadze and the diplomatic corps. The NATO and EU Information Center in Adjara aims to reach out the region`s population and raise their awareness of NATO and EU integration processes, thus facilitating active involvement into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures.

The Economics of Historic Preservation. Donovan Rypkema is an author of the cultural preservation textbook, The Economics of Historic Preservation, and founder of the organization, Heritage Strategies International. Mr. Rypkema is notable as a preservationist because he is less interested in preserving cities as museums but rather understands preservations powerful role in economic development. His three decade career includes endless examples of how preserving heritage buildings can add to the local economy (including jobs, paychecks, tax revenues, and real estate profits).

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted a delegation from Artvin Çoruh University headed by the Rector Mehmet Duman, Vice Rector Aydin Topekchioglu and Deans, who met with BSU`s Acting Rector, Associate Professor Merab Khalvashi, Vice Rector Natia Tsiklashvili, deans and professors. Representatives of the two HEIs discussed the programs implemented within the framework of the MoA and set forth new initiatives and priorities for co-operation. The universities have implemented number of projects in natural and agricultural study areas, having launched a joint doctoral program, as well as Mevlana Exchange Program. Meanwhile, BSU`s professors conducted lectures and workshops at Artvin Çoruh University. The parties have planned to work on joint educational / research projects, specifically targeting areas such as economy, humanities and health care and students exchange projects.

Faculty of Education of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted an intercultural event: Integrity of Diversity. The event was part of the project: Multicultural Education, Reflection of Teacher Education Programs.
BSU`s Georgian, Turkish, Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani students presented their cultures, reflecting multicultural characteristics. The project was sponsored by the Civil Integration and Inter-Ethnic Relations Center Open Society Georgia Foundation with the goal of creating an environment of tolerance and respect.

The International Summer School ‘Tourism: Economics and Business’ organized by the Faculty of Tourism, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, and the European School of Business, Germany, will make the first joint five-day training in tourism industry. It offers to over 30 participants sharing of German colleagues’ experience and introducing innovations.
The International Summer School with German and Georgian participants will discuss important issues such as: vision and strategy for the development of tourism, the tourism industry development trends, tourism and ecology and tourism at the global level.
Some of the workshops are planned to be held in the Mtirala National Park;
The participants will learn more about the agrarian / rural, ethnic and eco-tourism potentials during their visits in the Adjarian municipalities.
