The Academic Council of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University has awarded the title of Honorary Doctor to the UN Children’s Fund Representative in Georgia, Doctor of Law Ghassan Khalil. Ghasan Khalil made a significant contribution to the development of BSU and the upbringing of future generations. Witrh his initiative, the UNICEF Office in Georgia has been supporting the university in various educational activities for years. Under the leadership of Dr. Ghassan Khalil, the Center for the Rights of the Children was opened at BSU, an international conference on the rights of the children was held, a grant project was funded and implemented to strengthen the Center of the Rights of Children, trainings were provided to the academic staff on the issues of primary education teacher training and pre-school education.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University hosted American media experts and representatives of the US Embassy in Georgia within the framework of the US Embassy’s Media Education Programme, implemented by the Organization WorldChicago from the American side. The return visit of the Georgian side took place after the training course in America and was intended to share the American experience with the representatives of Georgian media schools. Within the framework of the media education programme, a new joint Master’s Educational Programme “Digital Media and Innovations” has been prepared in cooperation between Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Tbilisi Iv.Javakhishvili State University; the programme is in the process of accreditation
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is involved in the grant project of the USA Embassy in Georgia - MEDIA EDUCATION PROGRAM (MEP). In the frame of the grant project, the BSU was visited by the professors of the DePaul University in Chicago, South Illinois State University, media experts and the representatives of the US Embassy in Georgia.
American professors conducted masterclasses for journalism educational programme implementers and other stakeholders; shared the programme elaboration models with Georgian colleagues and introduced them to the news in the educational space of the US.
The programme is implemented by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in partnership with the US Grant Organization.
The webinar “Covid19 as a catalyst for educational change?” was held on 25th November 2021 within the project “iHub4Schools - Accelerating Digital Innovation in Schools through Regional Innovation Hubs and a Whole-School Mentoring Model“ financed by Horizon 2020 EU Research and Innovation program.
