Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Representative in Georgia, and Professor Lela Turmanidze, Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, officially opened an Inclusive Education and Children’s Rights Training Centre at Makhinjauri Public School.

As part of this initiative, UNICEF, in cooperation with the Children’s Rights Centre operating at Batumi State University, provided Makhinjauri Public School with technical equipment and educational resources, including books. The school will use these materials to further promote and strengthen inclusive education practices within the general education system.

The Centre was established within the framework of the Norway-Georgia-UNICEF project. With the support of the Government of Norway, UNICEF is implementing the project “Strengthening Universities to Support Inclusive Preschool and General Education,” which involves eight public universities across Georgia. One of the project’s key objectives is to establish well-equipped educational and training centres in the regions that will serve as platforms for professional training sessions, workshops, and collaborative meetings for teachers and students. Within this initiative, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University selected Makhinjauri Public School as the location for such a centre.

The Faculty of Exact Sciences and Education and the Children’s Rights Centre of Batumi State University will design and deliver training programmes at the Makhinjauri Public School Educational Training Centre for representatives of various schools. This initiative will contribute, on the one hand, to strengthening cooperation between the University and educational institutions, as well as among schools themselves, through the exchange of knowledge and professional experience. On the other hand, it will support the implementation of inclusive education approaches and contribute to achieving the objectives of the National Curriculum of Georgia.
